Europeans who made the voyage to America faced a difficult journey of several months.
Bucks County, Pennsylvania is one of three original Pennsylvania Counties and was formed in 1682. Originally it was a large territory that included all of what would later be Berks, Northampton, and Lehigh.

Johann Jacob Brandstetter was born on July 7, 1708 in Aichau, Ansbach, Bayern, Germany. His parents were Andreas Sigismund Brandstetter and Appolonia Egle Dosenbau. His Godfather was Johann Michael Widner, a farmer's son, from Ober Schönbrun.

When he was 30 years old, Jacob came to America on the ship Robert & Alice. There were 95 men aboard and the commander was Walter Goodman. They set sail from Rotterdam, Netherlands. They were qualified on September 11, 1738. In other words they were obligated to swear allegiance to England before they could disembark.

He married Anna Magdalena Spitelmaier in the early 1840s. Their children and life together are described in detail in the section on Jacob and Anna Magdalena Brandstetter.

Johann Jacob died in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

    • Ansbach or Anspach is a town in Bavaria, Germany. It is the capital of Middle Franconia. Ansbach is 25 miles southwest of Nuremberg and 90 miles north of Munich, on the Fränkische Rezat, a tributary of the Main.

    The Palatinate is a region in south-western Germany. Many thousands of Palatine immigrants were driven out of Germany by war, famine, despotic rule and disease. They were attracted to Pennsylvania by the first settlers who sent back favorable reports.
